The 4800+ is too expensive to be justfiied for anything! LOL!
The 3800+4200's are worse than normal Athlond64's (lower CPU speed)
however - in my eyes - teh best Dual-core CPU is the 4400+ - If you overclock it! - One guy I know has got 2.7 on both cores! - raaaaas - thats like two FX-56(!)'s!!! - now i'm sure that'd help your games run a tad faster for a start. ;>
PS - Gots the saitek eclipse keyboard too - well kool aint they? :)
PSS - You have to remove the IHS to get them speeds :)
PSSS - Currently waiting for my FX-53 to blow up - then its the 4400+ for me!

lol, nice zoomee, when i get enough money [bloody maxxed overdraft] i will def be building a system on a dual core, and seeing as that will be in like over 1/2 a year they should be a lot cheaper too boot, and mayb there will be multi-threaded games out by then too, W00T W00T. i would also say that removing the ihs is also a good thing, and it looks pretty easy, all u need is a sharp craft knife and some patience and it looks like u get SOOOOOOO much better performance and over-clockability.
my question is though, if u remove the ihs how do u know what pressure u r putting on the core when u r screwing down a water block? don;t wanna break those cores!! the old cores had the little sponge pads to help with the evening of the pressure but what about just a bare core???

mobo :dfi lanparty
cpu : amd x2 4400
hdd's : get 2 x raptors 36 gb and stick them in raid0
ram :ocz vx 4400
psu : too good to argue with.
obviously get watercooling.
as a designer you know that the viper doesn't look very nice at all. get something simple, and if you want to make it flash, you can always add stuff like fan controllers.
hope this helps

iirc, 76 gb raptor outperforms the 36. that way u dont need raid0.

i like the viper :'(

but i agree that simplicity can be eligence and style, and i can see your point.
its actualy pritty well designed, the only thing that lets it down is the cheepness in which it has been made.
i think on the whole you could do a lot worce.
iv actualy mannaged to graft a 120mmrad and fan into the frount of the case, so it takes up no room in the case and takes advantage of the inlet on the frount.
oh and sunng, why the lanparty?? personal prefrence or a good reasen??........ humor me, im not very familier with those bords, and i have been thinking of getting a new bord, i had problems with mine from the onset and only since the last bios have i had a stable system.

The DFI NF4 SLI-DR is the best S939 overclocker there is :)

leeum has a good point. however i have got no idea what overclocking means or does. when i was building my system alot of pro's told me to go for the dfi. its got a really good bundle. i say this, when my board is back in its box being sent back becuase it died. however i can tell it is really good. when i took it to the testers today they were also telling me how good these baords are.
and the 76 outperforming the 36. surley 2 36's in raid 0 are better than 1 76??
the only sane reason i can think of going for the abit, is that it sounds nice. "ABIT"
a bit what...
o yes, and dfi's supports voltage extreme ram.

I'm stuck with agp for the minute, until i can afford £1000 to replace my card,
i did have 2 x 76`s in raid to start with, but now i have a usb 200gig for storage and run all my apps of the raptor, i would haver to agree with you on the 2 hdds in theory, but is there a comparison somewhere????, i dunno.
:) :) :) new water cooling bits coming tomorrow, must go to sleep so they get hear faster... lol.

as for reviews on the lanparty board, check out bit-tech here http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/2005/05/16/nvidia_sli_pt1/1.html
the dfi comes in first all the way!!

Agreed - teh DFI is teh bestest uber-est motherboard around at the mo - I've had the MSI diamond- the gigabyte ones and nothing compares to the quality of the components on this board - As far as overclocking goes - its unbeatable! :)
With regards to removing the IHS - pressure is not a problem - just ensure you turn the screws half a turn a time whilst applying the waterblock to the cpu core - HAND-TIGHTEN it and you'll be kool - if I didnt have any trouble - you shouldnt :)
With regards to raptors in RAID - two things made me sell my two 36gb raptors:
A)- Too much heat whilst running two drives in RAID0
B)- Too much bloomin noise! - man are they noisey in RAID0 - hence the reason I'm just running 1 74GB one.
The 74Gb raptors are slightly faster than the 36GB ones - so if your gunna raid 0 something - it should be two 74Gb raptors
Hope this helps - zoomee :)

the x-2's? i should imagine very likely!! these things always do, amd and intel will not doubt have a bit of a price war soon esp after intel's new product ideas from the intel convention.
i'd prolly say around xmas time the price will have dropped by about £150 and i think the new fx is due for release around then [don't quote me] so that should bring prices down as well. happy hunting!!

raid0 does nothing for the raptors. i read a review somewhere (tom's hardware?) where they did it in raid and the performance advantage was minimal to zilch.
unless of course your doing server applications. otherwise its better to use the raptors to back each otherup. i think thats raid5? i dont remember too much abotu the raid numbering system.
and i thought the 76 were a vast improvement on the 36? not a few percentage but several in some tests.

raid 1 is the back up of each other, though, u can do raid0+1 which is kinda both fudged together. raid 5 is only available on server boards i think, and u will only really ever see 0,1and 0+1.

LOL twistednet - you obviously havnt tried RAID0 otherwise you wouldnt be saying that - it uber frikkin fast!
just depends on whether you can live with the extra heat/power/noise issues.
