ok, some of you might know a game called wolfenstein enemy territory

its is totaly free multiplayer only game like battlefield. it is based on quake 3 engine so its quite old but the graphics do not show their age. the competition in the game is fierce because lots of people play it because its free.

i was thinking of making our own clan in that game and have a squad and play. there are leagues and proper tournaments with prizes involved. I have been playing for a while and i can help new players who are interested.
the question is, are you interested?

ok.
the gameplay is objective based. allies attacking axis defending and then switching sides. the objectives are usully the type of blow up this and that, get the gold to the vehicle and run away, or escort the vehicle to some place. there are multiple objectives on each map. the weapons are real WW2 arms and not imaginary. so you get the thompson, mp40, panzerfaust, flamethrower (the flame effect would make the latest games jealous) rifles, sten, mg42 and vehicle mounted weapons. respawning has a reinforcements timer so you dont exactly respawn as soon as you die unless you go down right before the timer ends.
there are classes in the game and it has an experience system. so you get medics that can revive or heal injured team members, you get engineers that plant mines, dynamites and repair vehicles, you get covert ops that can steal the enemy clothes and disguise as enemy in order to open doors and scan for mines. you get soldier which is totaly useless but can use heavy weapons like flame thrower and panzerfaust and last but not least a field ops that throws ammo packs, calls artillery and air strikes.
the game has a very smart experience system that rewards you with xp according to how well you do with a specific class. so being a medic without giving medi packs wont help you get xp. however if you do your job right then you get to give more medipacks and full revive instead of 50% revive. same type of rewards go for the rest of the classes with the field ops being able to give more ammo and call more artilery.

some of you will love the fact it runs on linux just fine. also, dont forget the version 1.60 patch. the maps are usually downloaded from the game server so no need to worry about that.

yea all you need is the wolfet.exe and the 1.60 patch.

i would love to play tonight but my timetable doesnt allow it.

i think it would be best for most people to arrange it for weekends.

Also, try to download the all seeing eye. its a very useful server scanner utility. it will detect all the games you have installed andscan for servers all around the world. it showa you the ping, who is in the server and many other goodies. completely free too. google for all seeing eye.
through that utility i can give you the ip addresses of some good servers so you can add them to your fav list. all you need to do is double click on a server and it will launch the game for you and put you in the server.

i played the origional rtcw at a high level for ages, perfect online multiplayer game the teamplay and tactics made it harder to be good at a clanned level than other games imo.

i dabbled in ET for a while but its much slower pace and just didn't live up to wolf, but i still pub it now and again when bored.

not sure which version your wanting to play but to make it easier to find clans to play your best updating to 2.60 unless that was a typo.

also your gonna want etpro which is a mod that most servers run and all competitions use, give it a google or something.

As Quake Wars is due to be released this fall wouldn't it be more advisable to wait whilst then?

the game itself, the 2.60 patch and the all seeing eye.
once all that is installed add the following server to the all seeing eye

alternatively open the game and use the connect to ip button. to minimise the game you need to hit alt+enter as it doesnt recognise alt+tab
see you all in there tomorrow (saturday) at 5pm. add a CC to your name so we know who is from the forum. this is another clan's server but its a pub so they wont have a problem with us.

ET Pro - yep - Clanbase - we are registered I think as Ghostworks or Ghost.

Map circle changes quite often but we've kept the public down to the usual suspects so we can get more players on (didnt help - our public server is usually empty most of the time!)
Scripts for battery? sorry don't get ya - we do have scripts for stuff like server config is that what you mean?

haha. alex i dunno how you made it to that server but mate thats a medium to high skilled server. its definitely not the pace for new players. its normal you died all the time. even i get owned in there. dont worry i will show you easier servers.
anyway i think it is good time to start sharing our xfire names so we can communicate with eachother and make it easier to organise our gaming sessions. the thing is, as alex discovered, that the game experience can be pretty bad if you join the wrong server the very first day you start the game. so i want to take it easy and allow people to breathe a bit when they play the game.

Used to be well into RTCW and played ET for a while after then moved on to Battlefield, but the tram map in RTCW is still onna me all time fav scenerio's in any multiplayer enviroment.
