Well ive just built a pc out of random bits i had sitting about, went to install windows and as soon as it comes up "Setup is starting windows..." after loading all the drivers, it crashes with an IRQL_not_less_than_or_equal :S i've tryed another hard drive, a few windows cds and resset the bios but it still does it! aargh!

I had something like this happen to me before, i could, sometimes, get to when windows started to install, and it would then blue screen me. My problem was that one stick of ram was rubbish. Run a copy of memtest on the ram or try another stick entirely and see if that helps.

Might be that you are running the ram too fast/too lean... try lowering latency's and make sure its not running faster than its meant to be

thanks for the help :) I've tried running the ram slower and I did a memtest with no errors :S argh! i think i'll take a stick of my corsair out of this pc and try it with that. Oh yeah, it runs linux fine :S but i need windows to install for the job i want it to do :(

try disabling any motherboard ethernet ports in the bios - i've had problems with this in the past, but i can't quite remember the exact symptoms of my problem - only that windows wouldn't install...sounds similar but i could be completely wrong

Just disable everything possible thats onboard you can, test again, but you will prob find that you change the mobo and it will work.

Common problem with PackardBell/NEC/Compaq/HP/eMachine - More to the point anything dsg international sell.

Id know i work for there tech support :)
