I always like nice pictures but never got round to getting a decent camera.

A border always seems a nice touch as well - good stuff.

What camera did you end up getting??

ooops thourght i said, got the canon eos 350D, it was a toss up between the Nikon D50 and the canon 350, in the end the canon was a bit smaller for my litttle hands and has 2 extra mega pixels so that won me, plus i had some canon lenses from my 300v,

borders always make a nice finish to the picture i like from a shoot. just done in photoshop

The Canon EOS seems to be the camera of choice at present.

My mate uses a Canon 10D at the bike events and he always gets good results but i must admit i get a bit lost with all the lenses etc

Well i finally have invested in a 350D, so i took it out for its first test run today. I've only got the standard 18-55mm lens that came with it, so i was limited to what i could actually do.

Well here are a sample of pics.

Ichabod Crane
28-09-2006, 08:13 AM
it doenst have certain settings like underwater or things like that, but it has color adjustable settings which mean you can shoot black and white, sepia, and also pick any colors you want to and dont want to pick up

OK - got myself a new Canon EOS 400D a few weeks ago but not got round to trying it out yet.

All seems a bit complicated to me so any advice for getting some nice shots mainly of products for the site and close up stuff.

I use a light tent for most of the product items and seem to have been able to set the white balance (i think) but need to sort out the depth of field a bit better as i can a pretty good picture but only the centre bit is in focus :S

Bit different to my trusty point and shoot Canon :D

DR_D
24-02-2007, 12:13 AM
yep they are a tad different to a P&S but once you get used to it your gonna love it.

what i would suggest is that you shoot ing Av mode if your interested in controlling the DOF. the higher the apearture number(f-stop) the more DOF you have. only problem with using a f-stop is that the shutter speed decreases so you may need to use a tripod and a shutter release cable too.

I'm guessing you got the 18-55mm kit lens, if your gonna do a bit of product shooting i would suggest maybe getting a dedicated macro lens, seeing as most of your stuff is gonna be small.

If you need any more advice on using your new toy then ask away, both me a ichabod have 350D's with various lens, flashes and accessories.

glad to see this thread hasnt died, hows the 400D coolmietser? if ya shooting internally in a home studio i would suggest you invest in two things a 580ex flash and a canon 50mm f1.4 lens, and you will be rocking for them sample shots

DR_D

em f1.4 50mm you really think thats needed, i think the 1.8 would be good enough especially when you consider the price difference. i think paul will be using a mininum of f8 for the shots he wants anyway

i've got a couple of DSLRs that i don't use much anymore, so i'm gonna be flogging these off and getting a high endish point and shoot and was hoping some people here could give me ideas of what are good ones?

got a couple in mind:
canon Powershot A640
sony W90
sony T20
samsung i7
fuji F40FD
sony W80
kodak Z710

any recommendations would be appreciated, especially if people own them, have some example pics, if you can change ISOs, what manual options they have? (as in changing aperture, shutter speed etc)

coolmiester

Hey elfy, i got to say i just read a few reviews on the Canon Powershot A640 and it sounds slick to me mate especially for the price

I jumped in last year and got the Canon EOS 400 which is definitely worth a look as there is some great deals kicking around and then add to it a BG-E3 Battery Grip which not only gives you double the battery life but makes the camera much easier to hold and you got a all round good camera imo mate ;) Then once you get hooked you can start adding lenses and spending more money :S

Suppose it all come down to what you want out of a camera.

@ Pete

Good shots, first two are my fav's, the third has a tad bit too much brightness in the background.

@ Hyper

Some good shots there, fav has to be the chain, you got the focus perfect on the joint.

@ Paul

Wouldn't mind seeing a bit of a guide, even if its only a few tips, or a thread for people to post their words of wisdom. :thumb:

There all a little over exposed, what function where you using on the camera? best bet is probably to run them thru photoshop or similar to balance them a little other than that a good start as i know this is ya new E-500 :D
